SLSU-TO Conducts Monitoring, Evaluation of “Lend a Hand, Mentor a Friend 2.0” in Bontoc
The Extension Services Office of Southern Leyte State University – Tomas Oppus Campus conducted a monitoring and evaluation activity at Bontoc, Southern Leyte for its extension project titled “Lend a Hand, Mentor a Friend 2.0” on February 20, 2026. The activity was led by Mrs. Ma. Jovillea Palanca, Head of the Extension Services Office, in collaboration with Ms. Adelfa Diola, Head of Monitoring and Evaluation. Also present were Mr. Fermin P. Robles, Child Development Workers President of Bontoc, and Mr. Anthony T. Galano, Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Focal Person. The project proponent, Dr. Claire B. Goda of the Elementary Teacher Education Department under the Bachelor of Elementary Education program, joined the team during the visit. The monitoring covered five Day Care Centers in the barangays of Sta. Cruz, Poblacion, Sto. Niño, Union, and San Ramon.
The activity aimed to assess the implementation and effectiveness of the extension project and to determine how the strategies introduced were being applied in classroom settings. As part of the evaluation process, Ms. Diola interviewed the Day Care teachers from the participating barangays. Questions focused on their familiarity with the concepts discussed during the extension sessions and the extent to which the learned skills had been integrated into their teaching practices.
During the dialogue, the Day Care teachers also shared recommendations on improving the application of the project’s lessons. A common suggestion was the alignment of teaching practices with the Seven Domains of Child Development to promote holistic growth among learners. The San Ramon Day Care Center specifically recommended incorporating the domains more systematically to ensure effective instruction and quality learning experiences. The monitoring and evaluation activity concluded smoothly, with the cooperation of the Day Care teachers and barangay officials present during the visit. University officials noted that the initiative forms part of the institution’s continuing commitment to strengthen early childhood education and sustain meaningful community extension programs in Bontoc. This initiative supports Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education.
