On May 17, 2025, the Faculty of Hospitality, Tourism & Management (FHTM) of Southern Leyte State University spearheaded by the Faculty Dean Dr. Dinah F. Catamco, Ms. Alma Arnejo, Program Head of BS Hospitality Management, also with the faculty members Ms. Karyn Mae P. The event took place at the Covered Court, Barangay Tampoong, Sogod, Southern Leyte. A major highlight of the event was the coastal clean-up, which was done in partnership with Ms. Nanet Rawcliffe, owner of Samgyup Street Korean Food.
Volunteers worked hand in hand to restore cleanliness along the shorelines of Barangay Tampoong, reflecting a deep commitment to environmental stewardship.
Simultaneously, a library clean-up drive was held at the local library, led by Ms. Geanrose L. Colonia, Director of Library Commons and Library Services. The initiative aimed to create a more conducive learning space for the youth and community members. Another key moment was the Korean language session facilitated by Dr. Hoon Young Choi, President of KOPEC. This intercultural learning experience introduced basic Korean phrases and cultural insights to the participants, fostering global awareness and appreciation. To reward everyone’s efforts, a free breakfast was generously sponsored by Ms. Nanet Rawcliffe, providing hearty meals to fuel the volunteers throughout the morning’s activities.
The program was brought to a close with evaluation and messages of appreciation, including words of gratitude from Brgy. Chairman Mr. Clementino Napalan. The event served not only as a venue for community service but also as a platform for intercultural exchange and youth empowerment.
