Southern Leyte State University Equips Faculty and Extensionists with Advanced Skills in Impact Assessment of Development Projects

Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) is currently hosting a two-day training titled Capacity Building on Impact Insights: Advanced Methods for Effective Project Evaluation. The training, running from May 8 to May 9, 2025, is designed to enhance the skills of faculty members and extensionists in evaluating and improving the outcomes of development projects. The event is taking place at the RIES Training Hall, SLSU Main Campus.
The resource speaker of this training is Dr. Rhoderick D. Malangsa, Professor III. Participants are gaining theoretical knowledge and practical tools to assess program effectiveness, refine project designs, and ensure that community-based initiatives align with sustainable development goals. Key evaluation methods such as the Theory of Change, Bennett’s Hierarchy of Evaluation, and the Most Significant Change (MSC) technique are central to the training’s curriculum.
This initiative aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 4 – Quality Education, SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities, SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals, SDG 1 – No Poverty, and SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities. The training underscores SLSU’s commitment to capacity building, public service, and sustainable development by fostering programs that are not only responsive but also measurable, meaningful, and inclusive.
Participants from Maasin, Tomas Oppus, Bontoc, Sogod, San Juan, and Hinunangan Campuses have expressed their appreciation for the training's practical and reflective approach, with a strong emphasis on incorporating community voices, data-informed planning, and fostering long-term change.
