Empowering Communities: Financial Literacy Training in Brgy. Bitoon, San Ricardo, Southern Leyte
On November 25, 2024, Brgy. Bitoon in San Ricardo, Southern Leyte, came alive with a sense of purpose as it hosted the Financial Literacy Training under the banner of Project AMUMA: Cultivating Financial Resilience for Marginalized Farmers and Fisherfolk’s Economic Growth. The training aimed to empower farmers and fisherfolk with essential financial management skills, promoting sustainable economic growth within the community.
The event, held at the barangay’s covered court, was well-attended by local residents eager to improve their financial knowledge and practices. Barangay Secretary, serving as the master of ceremonies, warmly welcomed the participants and set the tone for the day’s activities.
Barangay Captain Hon. Chito D. Cualteros opened the program with an inspiring welcome message, emphasizing the importance of financial literacy in addressing the economic challenges faced by marginalized sectors.
The session was led by Resource Speaker Melvin Sarsale, who delivered an engaging and informative talk on the fundamentals of financial literacy, including budgeting, savings, and managing debt effectively. The training sessions were supported by Facilitators Manilyn Abaquita, Catherine Garcia, and Andre Gorme, who guided participants through interactive workshops and practical exercises designed to enhance their understanding and application of financial principles.
To assess the participants’ financial knowledge, pre- and post-tests were conducted. These tests allowed organizers to measure the progress made by attendees and ensure that the training met its objectives of providing practical and applicable knowledge.
The program concluded with closing remarks from Melvin Sarsale, who highlighted the importance of financial education as a tool for empowering communities. He encouraged participants to apply their newfound knowledge in their daily lives, fostering financial stability and growth.
