SLSU MCC brings Project AMUMA to Brgy. San Vincente, Sta. Cruz Macrohon
On October 23, 2024, Southern Leyte State University–Maasin City Campus (SLSU-MCC) launches Project AMUMA (Advancing Monetary Understanding and Management) in the communities of Brgy. San Vicente and Sta. Cruz, Macrohon. This initiative aimed to improve financial literacy among local residents, equipping them with essential skills to manage their finances effectively.
The program was led by esteemed faculty and administrative staff from SLSU-MCC, including Mrs. Junelen Inting and Mr. Gilbert Pavo. They conducted engaging discussions that focused on key aspects of financial literacy, addressing topics such as budgeting, saving, and responsible spending. Accompanying them were SLSU-MCC students Ms. Jonnalou Cutamora, Ms. Aubrey Gantala, and Mr. Jorge Garces, who served as facilitators, providing support and guidance throughout the sessions. Local government representatives, Shekinah Glory Monter and Jiel Morales, also contributed to the event, enhancing the community's connection to the program.
The successful implementation of Project AMUMA is a testament to the collaborative efforts of all involved, directly benefiting the residents of Brgy. San Vicente and Sta. Cruz. By focusing on financial literacy, the project aims to empower individuals and families, helping them make informed financial decisions that can lead to improved economic stability.
This initiative aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), notably SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). These goals highlight the importance of education and empowerment in reducing poverty and fostering sustainable development.
Through Project AMUMA, SLSU-MCC reaffirms its commitment to promoting financial literacy in the region. By equipping locals with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective money management, the university aims to contribute positively to the community’s long-term economic well-being. This initiative marks a significant step towards achieving a more financially literate and empowered populace in Southern Leyte.
