Hinunangan Campus

The Southern Leyte State University – Hinunangan Campus (SLSU-HC) is a premier center of higher education in the Municipality of Hinunangan, Southern Leyte. Established on June 15, 1968 as the Hinunangan Agricultural and Vocational School under Republic Act No. 5380, it later became part of the Southern Leyte State University system through Republic Act No. 9261 in 2004, strengthening its mandate to deliver quality academic programs across the province. The campus offers degree offerings that reflect the region’s agricultural and environmental assets, equipping students with both theoretical grounding and practical skills essential for community and industry development.

SLSU-HC is known for its Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, offering relevant undergraduate programs and driving initiatives in research, innovation, and extension. Faculty and students consistently engage in studies that support sustainable development, including research-based assessments and community-responsive projects. Several faculty members hold national certifications in policy-relevant evaluation, reinforcing the campus’s capacity to generate evidence-informed outputs. Through extension efforts such as the ELEAD Project, implemented in collaboration with local government units, the campus maintains strong community linkages and contributes directly to the social and economic well-being of nearby municipalities.

Beyond academics, the campus fosters a vibrant student life supported by facilities designed for learning, research, and extracurricular pursuits. Events such as the Local Charter Week further strengthen campus identity and provide platforms for collaboration, cultural celebration, and holistic student development.

Located approximately 144 kilometers east of Maasin City, the coastal municipality of Hinunangan comprises 40 barangays, including several island communities. This unique setting offers students an environment where natural landscapes and academic opportunities intersect, enriching their overall learning experience. With its integrated commitment to quality instruction, research productivity, and community service, the Southern Leyte State University – Hinunangan Campus continues to stand as a cornerstone of education and development in Southern Leyte, shaping graduates who are equipped to contribute meaningfully to their communities and to the broader agricultural and environmental sectors.
