SLSU–Hinunangan Celebrates 125th Civil Service Anniversary; Employees Join Team-Building and Coastal Clean-Up

The Southern Leyte State University–Hinunangan Campus commemorated the 125th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary (PCSA) with a full-day celebration on September 30, 2025, held at Graham Angel Haven Pool Resort, Barangay Tahusan, Hinunangan. The event featured the Gandilan 2025 Awarding Ceremony in the morning and a combined team-building program and coastal clean-up activity in the afternoon.
The morning's Gandilan Awards recognized outstanding faculty and staff for their exemplary commitment and service. Awardees were honored for embodying the University's values of excellence, dedication, teamwork, and integrity — values that reflect the broader spirit of the Philippine civil service.
In the afternoon, the celebration shifted toward strengthening solidarity and community service. Employees and staff engaged in team-building activities designed to enhance trust, collaboration, and unity across departments. It was followed by a coastal clean-up along the shoreline of Barangay Tahusan, where participants collected plastics and other non-biodegradable waste as part of the University's continuing advocacy for environmental protection.
The activity was spearheaded by the Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) under the leadership of Engr. Carol Ann B. Orias.
"I am deeply thankful to all our faculty, staff, and employees who wholeheartedly took part in today's activities," Engr. Orias said, expressing her gratitude for the enthusiastic participation of the campus community. "Your presence and commitment reflect not only our unity as one SLSU-Hinunangan family, but also our shared responsibility to serve the community and protect the environment. This is the true essence of public service."
The coastal clean-up underscored the University's alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 14: Life Below Water and SDG 15: Life on Land, which emphasize the protection of marine and terrestrial ecosystems, and SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, which highlights the importance of unity and effective institutions in delivering public service.
By combining recognition of employee excellence with purposeful activities that build teamwork and safeguard the environment, SLSU–Hinunangan affirmed that civil service is more than an institution — it is a continuing commitment to people, community, and the planet.
