Farms and Fisheries on Display, SLSU-Hinunangan Backs Agri-Aqua Success

Southern Leyte State University – Hinunangan Campus, through its Research, Innovation, and Extension Services (RIES) and in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), proudly joined the AGRI-AQUA FAIR 2025: A Celebration of Local Pride and Products, held as part of the 172nd Founding Anniversary of the Municipality of Hinunangan.
With the theme “Proud Hinunangnon! Atong Produkto, Atong Garbo,” the fair officially opened on June 25, 2025, and will run until June 27, 2025, providing three days of vibrant display and promotion of the municipality’s finest agri-aqua products.
The event was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist (OMAS), Municipal Agriculture and Fisheries Council (MAFC), DTI, SLSU, HAPAG program implementers, and beneficiaries of SLP and 4Ps under the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO).
The fair featured an impressive showcase of locally produced goods — from fresh seafood and farm harvests to carefully crafted processed products by local entrepreneurs. The booths, open to the public until June 27, provide a valuable platform for small-scale producers, farmers, fisherfolk, and micro-entrepreneurs to showcase their products, connect with potential markets, and build community support for local industries.
SLSU-Hinunangan’s participation in this meaningful event reflects its commitment to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The fair contributes to the Eradication of Poverty (SDG 1) and Decent Work and economic growth (SDG 8) by creating livelihood opportunities for farmers, fisherfolk, and small entrepreneurs. It supports Zero Hunger (SDG 2) by promoting local food security through sustainable agricultural practices and fisheries management.
The activity also highlights Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12) by encouraging the community to value homegrown, eco-friendly products, and it strengthens Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17) through collaboration between the academe, local government units, national agencies, and community organizations.
SLSU-Hinunangan remains steadfast in its support for initiatives that empower local communities, celebrate cultural identity, and promote sustainable development. The Agri-Aqua Fair 2025 stands as a vibrant testament to what can be achieved through shared efforts and pride in our local heritage.
