SLSU-HC, LGU Silago Launch River Water Quality Monitoring for Sustainable Environmental Stewardship

On March 6, 2025, the Research, Innovation, and Extension Services (RIES) Office, in partnership with the Environmental Science Department of Southern Leyte State University - Hinunangan Campus (SLSU-HC), initiated a water quality monitoring project across the four rivers of Silago, Southern Leyte.

Promoted by the earnest solicitation of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Silago municipality, the endeavor sought to address concerns regarding the water system's integrity and its implications for the community's welfare.

Led by Dr. Ian A. Navarrete, Head of RIES, alongside Ms. Cherryhel Toralde and students from the Environmental Science program, the preliminary monitoring activity marks a pivotal stride towards instituting a sustained quality assessment framework in the area.

The gathered data holds immense significance, not only for the LGU and community stakeholders but also for the preservation and sustainability of the local environment. This collaborative effort underscores our commitment to evidence-based decision-making and proactive environmental stewardship, promising enduring benefits for both present and future generations.
