SLSU–Maasin City Campus Conducts NSTP Orientation for First-Year Students

The Southern Leyte State University – Maasin City Campus (SLSU–MCC) successfully conducted the National Service Training Program (NSTP) Orientation for first-year students on August 13, 2025, at the PE Room, SLSU–MCC Building. The activity aimed to familiarize students with the objectives, program components, and academic requirements of the NSTP, in accordance with Republic Act No. 9163, also known as the “NSTP Act of 2001.”

Delivering the Welcome Remarks, Ms. Josecca Dumalag, MBA, NSTP Instructor, underscored the NSTP’s vital role in cultivating civic consciousness, discipline, and a sense of community service among students. She encouraged the participants to regard the program not merely as a compliance requirement but as an opportunity for holistic personal and professional development.

Ms. Lyca Siarot, RL, NSTP Instructor, then formally introduced the resource speaker, Dr. Lucia Estella Grace A. Abaa, NSTP Coordinator. Dr. Abaa presented the Orientation Proper, providing an in-depth discussion of the three NSTP components: Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC), Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS), and Literacy Training Service (LTS), along with their respective objectives, scope of implementation, and relevance to nation-building. She also outlined the academic requirements, grading system, attendance policies, and the significance of community-based projects in fostering leadership and volunteerism.

An Open Forum followed, during which students actively engaged with questions and clarifications regarding NSTP enrollment, activities, and program guidelines. The panel of NSTP faculty members addressed the queries, ensuring that all participants gained a clear understanding of their responsibilities under the program.

Subsequently, participants gathered for Photo Opportunities as a commemoration of the event. The program concluded with the Closing Remarks, which were originally scheduled to be delivered by Ms. Asterlyn P. Reoma, SAS Head. In her absence due to her busy schedule, Ms. Maricar Paloma, MAED, delivered the message on her behalf, reiterating the significance of the NSTP in shaping students into active contributors to societal progress.

The proceedings were seamlessly facilitated by Mr. Aris Rex Espinas, NSTP Instructor, who served as the Master of Ceremony.

Through this orientation, SLSU–Maasin City Campus reaffirmed its commitment to producing graduates who are not only academically competent but also socially responsible and dedicated to the service of the community and the nation.
