SLSU Strengthens Global Academic Collaboration through Educational Forum with UNISDA Indonesia

Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) – San Juan Campus reaffirmed its commitment to internationalization and academic excellence through the successful conduct of an Educational Forum in partnership with Universitas Islam Darul Ulum (UNISDA) Indonesia last April 7, 2026. The activity forms part of the 11th Batch of the SEA Teacher Project: SEAMEO Pre-Service Exchange, a platform that fosters global collaboration and professional growth among pre-service teachers.

Carrying the theme, “Deep Learning-Oriented English as a Foreign Language Instruction: Transforming Language Education for 21st-Century Learners,” the forum brought together faculty members, academic leaders, and pre-service teachers in a dynamic exchange of knowledge and pedagogical practices. The program commenced with opening ceremonies and institutional presentations, followed by insightful discussions led by guest speaker Dr. Buyun Khulel, Head of the English Department of UNISDA Indonesia, who shared innovative approaches to English language teaching grounded in deep learning principles.

A key highlight of the forum was the Cultural Exchange Proper, where SLSU,  SEAMEO pre-service teachers and BindTech third year students in their Foreign Language course actively engaged in collaborative activities such as traditional greetings exchange, language corner interactions, classroom culture comparison, and sharing of English teaching practices. The activity also featured presentations on values, festivals, and traditional attire, providing participants with a deeper appreciation of diverse cultures and educational contexts.

Campus Key Officials, Mr. Danilo S. Escobido, CPA, MM - Campus Director, Dr. Gwendolyn C. Tatoy – Dean of the Faculty of Business and Management and Dr. Gary D. Garcia – Head of Education Department highlighted the significance of experiential learning and cross-cultural engagement in teacher education. The forum provided a venue for meaningful dialogue, reflection, and exchange of best practices, reinforcing the shared commitment of both institutions to advancing quality education.

The activity concluded with the awarding of certificates and tokens of appreciation, followed by a photo opportunity and closing program. Overall, the Educational Forum stands as a testament to SLSU’s vision of producing globally competitive graduates and its mission of fostering academic collaboration, innovation, and community engagement.
