Southern Leyte State University–San Juan Campus conducted a Patent Drafting Writeshop: Guiding Students from Ideas to Protection on April 6–7, 2026, at the Student Center as part of the Research Seminar of the 3rd Year Industrial Technology students. The two-day writeshop aimed to equip student researchers with essential knowledge and skills in intellectual property rights and patent drafting, guiding them in transforming innovative ideas into legally protected intellectual property assets.
The writeshop featured expert-led sessions facilitated by resource speakers from the Innovation and Technology Support Office (ITSO). Ms. Rio Katrina C. Avila, ITSO Head, served as one of the keynote resource speakers, sharing insights on intellectual property protection and the importance of patents in research and innovation. She was joined by Engr. Carmel A. Gepanaga, Patent Drafter, and Ms. Cyren A. Napoles, Research Assistant, who conducted technical discussions and hands-on activities focusing on patent structure, claims writing, and proper documentation requirements. The activity was organized through the joint efforts of the Industrial Technology Department, led by Dr. Virgilio L. Perez, Jr., in collaboration with the Office of Research and Innovation and the Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IPTBM) Office headed by Dr. Melvin S.
