SLSU–San Juan Campus Faculty Clinches Best Paper and Presenter Awards at IVRCED 2025

Faculty members from Southern Leyte State University-San Juan Campus earned top recognitions at the 2nd International Virtual Research Conference on Education for Sustainable Development (IVRCED 2025) on October 16-18, 2025, reaffirming the university’s commitment to excellence in research and education for sustainability.

Ms. Jackylou S. Sarsale, together with her co-authors Catherine Patual, Marilou Siega, and Catherine Garcia, secured First Place for Best Research Paper under Track 17: Student Development, Inclusivity, and Support Systems in Higher Education for their study titled “Motivation Towards Choosing University Courses in Agriculture and Fisheries: Views from Filipino Students.”

In the same track, Dr. Melvin Sarsale received Third Place for Best Research Presenter for his paper “Parental Involvement in Assessment: Why, How and Where to?” which explored how parental engagement in assessment contributes to student development and learning outcomes. Likewise, Dr. Catherine M. Garcia achieved Third Place for Best Research Presenter under Track 1: Enhancing Graduate Competence and Workplace Readiness for her study, “Dimensions of Program Relevance Towards Employment Success: Evidence from a Graduate Tracer Study Using Principal Component Analysis.”

These international recognitions underscore SLSU’s strong research culture and its active participation in advancing global educational discourses. The university continues to encourage its faculty to pursue researches that address real-world challenges and contribute to sustainable educational practices.

The event aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SGD) 4 (Quality Education), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
