SLSU-TO Holds 11th Batch SEA-Teacher Exchange and Cultural-Pedagogical Forum with UNISDA, Indonesia

On April 6, 2026, Southern Leyte State University–Tomas Oppus (SLSU-TO) conducted the 11th Batch of the Internship and Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange (SEA-Teacher Project) in partnership with Universitas Islam Darul 'Ulum Lamongan (UNISDA), Indonesia, at the SLSU-TO Mini Theater.

The morning program featured a welcome and courtesy call for the UNISDA delegates and a send-off ceremony for SLSU-TO student teachers who will participate in the international exchange. Dr. Ingrid M. Uy, Director of the Global Engagement and Strategic Partnerships Office, emphasized the university’s commitment to strengthening global academic linkages. University officials, including Dr. Jude A. Duarte, Dr. Constantino G. Medilo, Jr., and Dr. Marie Khul C. Langub, conveyed messages of inspiration and support for the student teachers. Cultural performances by BPEd students added vibrancy to the celebration.

In the afternoon, SLSU-TO and UNISDA conducted the SLSU-UNISDA Cultural and Pedagogical Forum themed “Sumpay Lambo: Weaving Connection, Empowering Global Learners,” aimed at promoting cross-cultural understanding and sharing innovative teaching practices.

Mr. Joseph M. Añavesa, English Professor of SLSU-TO, presented “English Education: Bridging Policy, Practice, and Global Competence,” highlighting the foundations, goals, and best practices of English education at SLSU-TO, including campus journalism, demonstration teaching, internships, and participation in the SEA Teachers Student Internship Abroad Program.

Dr. Buyun Khulel of UNISDA delivered a talk on “Deep Learning-Oriented EFL Instruction in Indonesia,” discussing global trends in English as a Foreign Language (EFL), Indonesia’s instructional landscape, and a deep learning-based model designed to equip 21st-century learners with higher-order competencies and global readiness.

A roundtable discussion moderated by Mr. John Lord L. Capilitan followed, where selected graduate and undergraduate students shared insights on inclusivity and multiculturalism in education. The event reaffirmed the strong academic partnership between SLSU-TO and UNISDA, highlighting the role of international exchange and dialogue in developing globally competent and culturally responsive educators.

The initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by promoting inclusive, equitable, and globally responsive learning opportunities.
