SLSU- TO KanFil Reaches Level 4 in NCBCUP Accreditation, Earns Commendation at Y4U Assembly

The Kapisanan ng Filipino (KanFil) at Southern Leyte State University - Tomas Oppus Campus has reached an important milestone in its efforts to gain accreditation from the National Coordinating Body of Clubs for UNESCO in the Philippines (NCBCUP). As part of this process, the organization is currently taking part in the International Assembly of Youth for UNESCO (Y4U) at the Forest Crest Nature Hotel and Resort in Nasugbu, Batangas, from November 21 to 23, 2025. This participation marks Level 4 of the accreditation process, following KanFil’s successful completion of earlier phases: the submission of required documents (Level 1), attendance at an orientation or mentoring webinar (Level 2), and an interview with NCBCUP officials (Level 3).

On November 21, KanFil received a Certificate of Commendation from NCBCUP for its dedication and commitment as a partner in promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This recognition showcases the organization’s increasing involvement in initiatives focused on cultural preservation, sustainable development, scientific awareness, and peacebuilding, which align with UNESCO’s mission. The official KanFil delegation includes President Miles L. Galopo, Internal Vice President Mae Flor P. Pene, External Vice President Hanz Axl R. Dasal, Secretary Archie B. De La Torre, and Adviser Raniel G. Aninapon, MAEd-FLT. They were also accompanied by Filipino Education faculty members Dr. Norlyn L. Borong, Dr. Analiza M. Nares, and Dr. Riza L. Lacerna.

The Y4U assembly carries the theme “Strength in Action: Harnessing the Collective Power of Youth to Lead with Heart, Purpose, and Integrity.” Delegates participate in various sessions, panel discussions, and workshops designed to shape young Filipinos into active contributors to national progress and global cooperation. The assembly welcomes over a thousand student leaders and organization representatives from universities across the Philippines, highlighting the scope of youth engagement in UNESCO-related initiatives.

KanFil’s participation in the assembly and its progress through the accreditation stages are supported by institutional partners, local government units, and parents. The organization appreciates the help provided by the SLSU–Tomas Oppus administration, led by Dr. Clemente H. Cobilla and Dr. Norla Grace A. Betarmos, as well as the Filipino Education Program, headed by Dr. Norlyn L. Borong. Additional support came from LGU Tomas Oppus – Hon. Mayor Rod Ivan C. Pano; LGU Liloan – Hon. Mayor Joanna C. Adan and Vice Mayor Shirlita Y. Chong; LGU Matalom – Mayor Elvira A. Pajulio and Vice Mayor Eric S. Pajulio; and LGU Bontoc – Hon. Mayor Noel E. Alinsub and Hon. Vice Mayor Rodulfo V. Nablea, which covered the registration fees for the student delegates. Congressman Christopherson “Coco” M. Yap also sponsored the registration fee for one student leader, and the parents of the participants offered crucial encouragement and support throughout this journey.

KanFil’s involvement in the Y4U International Assembly demonstrates its growing commitment to promoting culture, development, and peace within its institution and beyond. With more activities planned over the three-day event, the organization aims to continue enhancing its advocacy efforts while representing SLSU–Tomas Oppus on a national stage. This initiative reflects KanFil’s dedication to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through youth empowerment, cultural preservation, and community-led action.
