SLSU-TO Graduate School Strengthens Academic Community Through Convocation and General Assembly

SLSU–Tomas Oppus Graduate School held its Convocation, Orientation on the Revised GPMO, and General Assembly at the Covered Court of SLSU Tomas Oppus Campus.

The whole-day activity gathered graduate students, faculty members, and university officials in a collaborative event that emphasized academic excellence, institutional values, and student development. University and campus officials graced the occasion, including Dr. Constantino G. Medilo Jr., Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Clemente H. Cobilla, Campus Director.

The orientation program featured a series of discussions that highlighted the Graduate School’s vision, mission, goals, and objectives (VMGO), as well as its academic structure and instruction delivery. Dr. Dana D. Lim, Program Head for Science Education, opened the session, followed by Mr. Renato M. Tindugan (Registrar III) and Mr. Rodrigo T. Goles Jr. (Head, CISA), who discussed admissions, enrollment, graduation requirements, and student profiling. Dr. Lilibeth S. Tindugan, Program Head for Educational Management, presented the calendar of activities, qualifying examinations, and dissertation requirements. It was followed by Dr. Mark B. Galdo (Head, RIES), who spoke on research, innovation, intellectual property, and data privacy. To conclude the segment, Dr. Leslie Elisa S. Cobilla (Head, ICWD Center) introduced the Graduate School’s agenda on creative works.

The event also highlighted student welfare and services. Dr. Pritzel Lee G. Capili, Dr. Joseph Anthony M. Romero, Ms. Love Lee S. Fernandez, and Mrs. Carmencita D. Orais discussed organizational activities, health and safety policies, scholarship programs, and library services. In addition, Dr. Erlinda D. Tibus, adviser of Psyche, the official publication of the Graduate School, introduced the editorial platform. The morning session was capped with closing remarks from Ms. Rosemarie M. Micate, GRASSO President.

In the afternoon, the Graduate School Student Organization (GRASSO) led the Meet and Greet and General Assembly. Ms. Marilou G. Tindoy (Vice President) presented the financial and accomplishment reports, followed by the unity song performed by Graduate School students. The program continued with the election of new officers and the oath-taking ceremony of the incoming leaders. Serving as Toastmaster for the entire event was Ms. Lina Fe P. Fornis, a Master of Arts in Education student.

The convocation, orientation, and assembly strengthened the Graduate School community’s commitment to uphold excellence in research, innovation, and leadership. Anchored on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4: Quality Education, SLSU continues its pursuit of advancing inclusive and transformative graduate education that empowers individuals to contribute meaningfully to sustainable development.
