Future Hospitality Leaders Showcase Innovative Green Ideas at SLSU Sustainability Pitching Event
Southern Leyte State University–Main Campus successfully held its first-ever Sustainable Hospitality Pitching Presentation with the theme “Sustainable Hospitality: Innovating for a Greener Future” on November 27, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:30 PM at the SLSU Mini Theater.
Organized by the Faculty of Hospitality, Tourism, and Management (FHTM) through instructors Kent Ian R. Torion and Joshua M. Obtiar, in collaboration with the Innovative Network of Students Projects in Research and Events (INSPIRE), the event served as the culminating assessment for students under HMPE 401 – Sustainable Hospitality (Environmental Issues Affecting the Hospitality Industry).
The program opened with an inspiring welcome message from Dr. Dinah F. Catamco, Dean of FHTM. She emphasized the crucial role of sustainability and innovation in shaping the future of hospitality and tourism, commending the college for spearheading its first-ever sustainability-themed pitching event.
A total of 15 student groups showcased forward-thinking, research-based proposals centered on environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic viability. Their presentations featured diverse concepts including eco-lodges, zero-waste restaurants, community-based tourism initiatives, renewable energy–powered facilities, and socially inclusive hospitality programs. Each team presented comprehensive feasibility studies, sustainability strategies, and innovative solutions addressing current industry challenges, followed by a three-minute Q&A session with the panelists.

The event was further highlighted by the presence of Engr. Khorina A. Tablada, Director for Research and Innovation, who served as one of the esteemed panelists and provided valuable insights to enhance the students’ proposals.
A short awarding ceremony concluded the activity, recognizing the efforts of all participating groups and honoring the panelists for their expertise and support. Ms. Alma M. Arnejo, Program Head of BS Hospitality Management, delivered the closing message, commending the students for their creativity, preparedness, and commitment to sustainable practices.
The successful conduct of the pitching event reaffirmed SLSU’s dedication to promoting experiential, inclusive, and sustainability-driven education, preparing future hospitality professionals to lead the industry toward a greener, more responsible future.
