SLSU-Main Joins the 125th PCSA with a Coastal Clean-up Drive and Family Day Celebration

In celebration of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) 125th Anniversary on September 19, 2025, Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) Main Campus spearheaded a Coastal Clean-up Drive themed “Bayanihan by the Bay: One Coast, One Family,” organized by the Gender and Development (GAD) Office in collaboration with the Environmental Management & Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (EM-DRRM) Office and the University Human Resource Development Management Office (UHRMDO).

The initiative was carried out in various coastal areas of Sogod, Southern Leyte, specifically in Barangay Zone II, Barangay Zone III, Barangay LP Concepcion, Barangay Consolacion, Barangay Mahayahay, Barangay Javier, and Barangay Maac, supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 14: Life Below Water and SDG 13: Climate Action, by helping protect marine ecosystems and reducing the adverse impacts of pollution on the environment.

Over 400 faculty and administrative staff of SLSU Main Campus, including its US English Language Fellow, joined hands with local communities to remove waste and debris along the shorelines. Moreover, to promote teamwork and proper waste management, the clean-up drive followed a buddy system, where each pair was tasked to collect both residual wastes, such as single-use plastics and recyclable materials like bottles. This approach encouraged collaboration while ensuring proper waste segregation. Such practices advance SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, by promoting waste reduction, recycling, and sustainable habits.

The event also served as the university’s SLSU Family Day, a flexible and inclusive celebration designed to give employees, especially working parents, quality time to bond with their colleagues and families. This aligns with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 5: Gender Equality, and SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, as it fosters work-life balance, employee welfare, and overall productivity.

By extending efforts beyond the campus, SLSU has once again exemplified community engagement, environmental stewardship, and family-centered initiatives in Southern Leyte.
