Southern Leyte State University President Receives DOST VIII Plaque of Recognition for Advancing Science, Technology, and Innovation
Southern Leyte State University (SLSU), under the leadership of University President Dr. Jude A. Duarte, has once again earned regional recognition after the Department of Science and Technology Regional Office VIII (DOST VIII) conferred a Plaque of Recognition during the 2026 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) Fellowship Night held on July 15, 2026 in Summit Hotel, Marasbaras, Tacloban City. The recognition formed part of the annual RSTW celebration highlighting partnerships that advance science, technology, and innovation (STI) across the region.
The award recognizes the invaluable partnership, steadfast commitment, and exemplary support in advancing Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) in Eastern Visayas. According to the citation inscribed on the plaque, DOST VIII acknowledged his enduring collaboration with the agency, which has contributed to bringing transformative innovations to communities, strengthening institutions, and promoting inclusive and sustainable development.
The recognition likewise reflects the collective achievements of the Southern Leyte State University community, particularly through the initiatives spearheaded by the Office of the Vice President for Research, Innovation, Publication and Extension (VPRIPE) under the leadership of Dr. Francis Ann R. Sy. Together with President Duarte, Dr. Sy has been instrumental in strengthening SLSU's research culture, innovation ecosystem, technology transfer initiatives, and extension programs that have deepened the university's collaboration with DOST VIII and other development partners. Their leadership has enabled SLSU to actively contribute to regional development through research-driven solutions, community engagement, and innovation initiatives.
