BTLED 3A Showcases Creativity in Craft and Design Exhibit
Creativity, patience, and craftsmanship take center stage as the BTLED 3A students of Southern Leyte State University, Faculty of Education, Technology, and Innovation, hold their Craft and Design Exhibit on May 13, 2026, as part of their course requirements for MAJ-HE 310 at Room IE 201.
Carrying the theme “Artisan of Tomorrow: Celebrating the Art of Handicrafts,” the exhibit highlights the students’ ability to transform used, simple and available materials into creative, meaningful, and visually appealing handcrafted outputs. More than just a display of finished products, the activity becomes a celebration of skill, resourcefulness, and appreciation for the beauty of handmade crafts.

The program begins with an opening prayer led by Kristyl Ann Leopoldo, followed by the welcome address of Keanna M. Dayola. An inspirational message is delivered by Dr. Josefina O. Carpentero- the Dean of FETI who also leads the ribbon-cutting ceremony together with Mr. Jason D. Saludes- the BTLED Program Head and Mrs. Juvy P. Obus- the subject teacher officially opening the exhibit.
The students present a variety of craft outputs, including Stone Craft, Paper Craft, Shell Craft, Craft from Indigenous Materials, Needle Craft, Beaded Picture Frame, Decorative Art Made of Egg Tray, and Bonsai Plant Making Using Fuzzy Wire. Through these works, the students demonstrate not only creativity, but also patience, attention to detail, and a deeper appreciation for the value of handicrafts in education and daily life.

The design talk sessions are presented by Hazell Anne Tenio, Anna Rose Saz, Gwyneth German, Kathleen Jean Dayola, Armando Sabandal, Irene Maureal, Mary Jean Liado, and Sandra Braquil, who share the ideas, processes, and inspirations behind their respective creations.

The entries are evaluated by the panel of judges composed of Dr. IT Phebeuger M. Torion, Ms. Jolibee B. Tagoon, Mr. Jason D. Saludes, Mr. Luchie D. Arandia, Mr. Bethany Munez, and Ms. Cyndie S. Albaracin. Outstanding works from each craft category are recognized during the exhibit. Armando L. Sabandal Jr. receives the awards for Best Egg Tray Craft Design, Best Needle Craft Design, Best Beaded Frame Design, and Best Craft Category. Gwyneth C. German is awarded Best Bonsai Plant Design, Best Indigenous Craft Design, Best Shell Craft Design, and Most Creative Design. Meanwhile, Anna Rose M. Sas receives the Best Paper Craft Design award, while Keanna Dayola and Mary Jean L. Liado are recognized for Best Stone Craft Design.

The activity ends with the giving of certificates, a reflection delivered by Alexa Napoles, and closing remarks from Ms. Juvy P. Obus.
Indeed, the Craft and Design Exhibit is more than an academic activity. It is a meaningful reminder that art can be found in simple materials, and that through creativity and dedication, students can become artisans who preserve culture, inspire others, and give new life to the craft of handmade design.
