BTLEd Students’ Research Congress 2026: Celebrating Innovation, Inspiring Future Educators

For the Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education (BTLEd) students of Southern Leyte State University – Main Campus, Sogod, research is more than a requirement; it is a platform for innovation, creativity, and real-world impact. This vision comes to life during the BTLEd Students’ Research Congress 2026, held on April 28, 2026, at the SLSU Mini Theater.

The congress marks a significant academic gathering under the Faculty of Education, Technology, and Innovation (FETI), where student researchers proudly present their thesis outputs across diverse fields. From sustainable technologies and food innovations to digital learning tools and educational strategies, each study reflects not only academic competence but also a deep commitment to solving community-based challenges.

The event opens with a solemn prayer, followed by messages from university leaders, Mr. Jhon Mar A. Majerano, RIPES Coordinator, and Dr. Frances Ann R. Sy, Vice President for Research, Innovation, Publication & Extension Services, who emphasize the vital role of research in shaping future educators. More than just a formal program, the opening sets the tone for a day grounded in purpose, collaboration, and intellectual exchange.

“Research does not end with discovery - it finds its true purpose in publication. By sharing your work with the wider academic community, you transform knowledge into impact and contribute to the advancement of education and innovation.” – Dr. Frances Ann R. Sy.

At the heart of the congress is the oral presentation of thesis outputs, where students confidently share months of hard work. Each presentation tells a story of persistence, long nights of data gathering, revisions, and problem-solving. The presence of evaluators—Dr. Vernabelle L. Balmori, Mr. Stephen V. Naul, and Dr. Adel Grace P. Gaudicos—ensures that each study is assessed with academic rigor and fairness.

Among the many impressive studies, one stands out for its innovation and relevance: the “Innovative Chlorine–Seawater–Salt Electrolyte for Lighting System.” The research, developed by Aaron Dave C. Fabiolas, Shara Mae C. Hinlas, Joshua C. Rapel, Kristhy T. Caballes, and Ericka Quillope, demonstrates a creative and sustainable approach to alternative energy solutions. Their work earns both Best Digital Poster and Best Undergraduate Thesis, highlighting its strong potential for real-world application.

The congress culminates in an awarding ceremony that celebrates excellence and dedication. Shara Mae C. Hinlas and JV Zion F. Sala earn a tie for the Best Presenter award, followed by Kimberly Samaco as the 2nd Best Presenter. Lyka Jane E. Quimno and Ma. June Maica Abiar also share a tie for the 3rd Best Presenter spot.

The study titled “Innovative Chlorine – Seawater – Salt Electrolyte for Lighting System” achieves double honors by winning both Best Digital Poster and Best Undergraduate Thesis. Additionally, Mr. Nicolas Fuertes receives recognition as the Best Thesis Adviser for his guidance and mentorship.

Each award represents more than recognition—it symbolizes resilience, teamwork, and the courage to innovate. Behind every name called is a journey of challenges overcome and goals achieved.

As the event draws to a close, the message is clear: research is not merely an academic exercise, but a powerful tool for transformation. The BTLEd Students’ Research Congress 2026 does not only showcase student outputs; it strengthens a culture of inquiry, excellence, and purpose within the university. With the success of this year’s congress, BTLEd students set a high standard for future researchers. More importantly, they prove that even at the undergraduate level, meaningful and impactful research is not only possible—it is already happening.

As applause fills the hall and certificates are handed out, one thing becomes evident: this congress is not just a culmination, but a beginning—of ideas, of innovation, and of a generation of educators ready to lead and inspire.
