SLSU Conducts Emergency First Aid Training for First-Year Students

The Faculty of Hospitality, Tourism, and Management conducted an Emergency First Aid Training for first-year Hospitality Management and Tourism Management students of Southern Leyte State University.

The first batch of the training was held on January 28, 2026, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the SLSU Plenary Hall, while the second batch took place on February 4, 2026, at the SLSU Mini Theater. The activity was organized in collaboration with the MICE Events class.

The training focused on the basic principles of first aid and the proper procedures in responding to emergencies. Students learned how to conduct an initial assessment to check a person’s level of consciousness and responsiveness, and determine the appropriate action to take. Discussions also covered common illnesses, trauma-related emergencies, and potential risks in emergency situations.

During the session, first aid was defined as the immediate assistance given to a person who is injured or suddenly ill until professional medical help arrives. The primary goal is to preserve life, prevent the condition from worsening, and promote recovery.

Practical demonstrations on proper dressing and bandaging techniques were conducted to equip students with essential emergency response skills. Participants were also encouraged to show empathy, integrity, and responsibility when responding to emergencies.

The training highlighted the importance of preparedness and proper first aid knowledge in ensuring safety and well-being in various situations.
