ITSO Holds Seminar Series on IP Awareness, Product Development, and Patent Search for FOT

The Intellectual Property and Technology Support Office successfully implemented a multi-day seminar series titled “Intellectual Property Awareness, Product Development, and Introduction to Patent Search” for students under the Faculty of Technology. The activity aimed to strengthen students’ understanding of intellectual property concepts and their application in innovation, research, and skills-based learning.

The first leg of the program was conducted on November 19 for Automotive Technology students, followed by the November 20 session for Electrical Technology students. Both events featured speakers Angel T. Sabusap and Carmel Aniga, who delivered informative discussions on the fundamentals of intellectual property, the importance of protecting original work, and the role of product development in today's competitive and evolving industries.

The series continued on November 26 for students from HVAC, Electronics, Drafting, and Food Preparation Technology programs. Speaker Rio Katrina C. Avila provided an in-depth introduction to patent search processes, guiding students on verifying originality, assessing novelty, and exploring existing technologies using appropriate search techniques. Her session emphasized the relevance of patent awareness in technology-based fields and future professional practice.

Through this initiative, the Office reaffirmed its commitment to promoting innovation literacy and responsible research among Technology students. By integrating intellectual property principles with product development and patent search skills, the program supports the Faculty of Technology’s goal of producing knowledgeable, industry-ready, and innovation-driven graduates.
