SLSU ITSO Participates in IPOPHL Training on Commercialization and Technology Transfer

The Southern Leyte State University Innovation and Technology Support Office (SLSU ITSO) formally participated in the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) Training for ITSOs on Commercialization and Technology Transfer conducted at Leyte Normal University from November 17–21, 2025. The said activity was implemented under the ITSO 2.0 Program and was designed to empower higher education institutions in strengthening their respective intellectual property management, protection, and utilization frameworks.

Innovation attains its full socio-economic value only when research generated technologies are successfully translated into practical, market-responsive, and industry-adopted applications. Through the series of technical sessions, workshops, and guided discussions facilitated by IPOPHL resource experts, SLSU ITSO significantly enhanced its competencies in IP valuation, licensing strategies, commercialization models, and technology transfer mechanisms. These core functional areas are essential in ensuring that university developed technologies advance beyond the prototype stage and reach stakeholders who can maximize their commercial and societal impact.

The training further underscored the importance of institutional readiness, proper documentation, and compliance with national IP policies in advancing technology transfer initiatives. By equipping its ITSO personnel with updated guidelines, analytical tools, and best practices in research to market processes, Southern Leyte State University strengthens its capability to align its innovations with industry demands and national development priorities. This capacity building engagement likewise supports the University’s mandate to promote responsible stewardship of its intellectual property assets.

By reinforcing its competencies in strategic IP management, market assessment, technology commercialization, and industry partnership development, SLSU ITSO reaffirms its commitment to sustaining a strong and innovation driven ecosystem for the benefit of the University and the wider Southern Leyte community. The insights gained from the training are expected to enhance the institution’s ability to generate, protect, and deploy technologies that contribute to long-term economic and societal advancement.
