Empowering Young Researchers: The Writeshop on Commentary Paper Writing for Grade 10 Students

On October 29, 2025, The Writeshop successfully conducted an online session titled Writeshop on Crafting Commentary Papers for Journal Publication” from 9:00 to 10:30 in the morning via Google Meet.

The activity brought together the Grade 10 students of SLSU-TO Laboratory High School, who actively participated in the engaging and informative session. The workshop aimed to introduce young learners to the art of writing commentary papers—a crucial skill for expressing scholarly insights and contributing to academic discussions.

The session was facilitated by a Research Assistant from the Research, Innovation, and Extension Services (RIES) of Southern Leyte State University. The resource person shared valuable strategies for developing, structuring, and refining commentary papers suitable for journal publication. Through practical tips and real-world examples, participants gained a deeper understanding of how to articulate informed opinions and critical analyses grounded in research.

This writeshop forms part of The OVPRIES Initiative, which continues to uphold the mission of nurturing research competence and scholarly excellence among students. It reflects Southern Leyte State University’s commitment to fostering a research-driven academic culture even at the secondary level.

The event concluded with words of appreciation for the active participation and enthusiasm of the young researchers, marking another step toward building a community of future scholars ready to contribute their voices to the world of research and innovation.
