SLSU Builds Capacity for Global Readiness Through AUN-QA Framework

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam — Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) continues to elevate its pursuit of academic excellence by strengthening its quality assurance initiatives through participation in the 26th ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) Tier I Training Course for Programme Assessment, held from October 14–17, 2025.

Representing the university were Dr. James Brian Flores, Director of Quality Assurance, and Ms. Reinelly Faith N. Gomba, Quality Assurance Officer. The Philippines had the largest delegation, with 36 out of 60 participants, reflecting the country’s growing commitment to international education standards.

The training provided participants with a deeper understanding of the AUN-QA framework, focusing on programme-level assessment, the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) cycle for continuous improvement, and hands-on exercises that simulate real assessment processes. Associate Professor Dr. Tan Kay Chuan, Lead Trainer and Assessor, underscored the importance of designing programmes that focus on achieving intended outcomes rather than merely meeting content requirements. He also highlighted how global quality assurance metrics, rankings, and ratings drive institutional innovation and development.

For SLSU, this training marks a strategic step toward AUN-QA accreditation, empowering its quality assurance team to align university programmes with international standards. By adopting best practices in programme assessment, SLSU strengthens its capability to deliver education that is globally competitive, responsive to societal needs, and committed to continuous improvement.
