SLSU Earns Overall 3 Stars in QS Stars Rating, Marking Significant Improvement in Global Standing

Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) has once again proven its commitment to academic excellence and global competitiveness by earning an Overall 3 Stars Rating in the prestigious Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Stars Evaluation. It achieved an impressive 665 out of 1000 points,  a remarkable improvement from its previous score of 569 in 2022.

This year's evaluation highlights the university's significant strides across key performance indicators.

SLSU garnered 5 Stars in the following categories:

  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
  • Facilities
  • Good Governance
  • Teaching

It also excelled with 4 Stars in:

  • Employability
  • Academic Development
  • Environmental Impact

And achieved 3 Stars in:

  • Education & Training
  • Global Engagement

When SLSU first underwent the QS Stars institutional evaluation in 2022, the assessment covered eight (8) key criteria: Teaching, Employability, Internationalization, Research/Academic Development, Facilities, Subject Ranking/Program Strength, Arts & Culture, Innovation, Social Responsibility, and Inclusiveness.

During that initial assessment, SLSU obtained:

5 Stars in the following categories:

  • Teaching
  • Inclusiveness

It also earned 4 Stars in:

  • Social Responsibility
  • Facilities
  • Academic Development

And achieved 3 Stars in:

  • Employability

In comparison, the 2025 results revealed notable advancements, as SLSU sustained its excellence in Teaching while adding Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Facilities, and Good Governance to its list of 5-Star areas. The university also elevated its Employability rating from 3 to 4 Stars, reflecting stronger graduate outcomes and heightened industry relevance. Furthermore, the inclusion of new categories such as Environmental Impact and Global Engagement highlights SLSU's growing commitment to sustainability, international collaboration, and its continuous efforts to align with global standards in higher education.

The QS Stars Rating System—developed by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a leading global higher education analytics organization—provides a comprehensive framework for universities to measure their performance across various dimensions, from academic quality to institutional governance.

By earning its second QS Stars recognition with a higher score and broader areas of excellence, SLSU strengthens its position as one of the emerging globally competitive universities in the Philippines.
