SLSU-TO Conducts RIES Processes Orientation for Instructors and Assistant Professors

Southern Leyte State University–Tomas Oppus Campus (SLSU-TO), through its Research, Innovation, and Extension Services (RIES) unit, conducted RIES Processes Orientation for all faculty members holding the ranks of Instructor and Assistant Professor on August 13, 2025, at the SLSU-TO Mini Theater. The orientation aimed to equip faculty with a clear understanding of institutional workflows, documentation requirements, and compliance standards related to research, innovation, and extension services.

The main presentation was delivered by Dr. Mark B. Galdo, Head of SLSU-TO RIES, who discussed the RIES Quality Procedures, including research paper review and evaluation, submission of completed research, research presentation protocols, issuance of workload units, publication requirements, intellectual property processes, and monitoring and evaluation systems. Dr. Galdo also covered the Extension Services Quality Procedures, from proposal review to forging partnerships through Memoranda of Agreement. The session also introduced the various RIES Quality Forms and their proper use, including proposal formats, compliance checklists, workload certifications, permits to conduct, and monitoring tools, all designed to standardize operations and ensure ISO-aligned practices.

Dr. Francis Ann Sy, Vice President for RIES, also gave a message of support. She discussed having a Research Assistant assigned to the campus for faculty who need immediate assistance, the increased citations of faculty in Scopus-indexed journals, and highlighted the role of research, innovation, and extension in advancing both academic growth and community development, assuring the faculty of continued institutional support. She also commended the SLSU-TO RIES for being the first to organize an orientation on RIES processes among the campuses.

SLSU-TO reaffirms its commitment to research, innovation, and extension in producing globally competitive graduates and addressing needs. This initiative supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Quality Education (SDG 4) and Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9).
