KTTO Boosts Innovation Through Virtual Benchmarking with CapSU

On July 25, 2025, Southern Leyte State University (SLSU), through the Office of Knowledge and Technology Transfer (KTTO), successfully conducted a virtual benchmarking activity with Capiz State University (CapSU). Themed “Advancing Best Practices in Intellectual Property Protection and Commercialization,” this initiative aimed to level up SLSU’s efforts in research protection and tech transfer. Through this partnership with CapSU, SLSU aims to enhance its IP systems, support local inventors, and push forward its commercialization roadmap for a more research-driven future.

The virtual benchmarking began with an inspiring welcome message from Dr. Francis Ann R. Sy, SLSU’s VP for Research, Innovation, and Extension Services, setting a tone for a forward-thinking exchange. Ms. Rio Katrina C. Avila, Head of ITSO, introduced the session’s keynote speaker, Prof. French A. Dampog, Director of CapSU’s IPMO, who shared valuable insights on how their university streamlined IP management and commercialization.

The session concluded with a reflective note from Engr. Khorina O. Aguilar, SLSU’s Director for Research and Innovation, who highlighted key actionable takeaways. It was followed by a meaningful closing message from Engr. Jonelle A. Tablada, KTTO Director, who reaffirmed SLSU’s strong commitment to advancing its innovation ecosystem.

The open forum sparked insightful dialogue on IP protection challenges, collaborative opportunities, and the future of research-driven development in state universities.
