SLSU's Sustainability Initiatives featured in Pressenza

Southern Leyte State University’s groundbreaking work in sustainability has earned the spotlight in Pressenza, the renowned international press agency dedicated to amplifying innovative solutions for social impact.

WURI historian Genevieve Balance Kupang featured the university in her article “Empowering Communities through Innovation: Highlights from The 5th HLU Conference Break-Out Sessions”, published on Pressenza’s global platform.

Representing University President Dr. Jude A. Duarte, Dr. James Brian Flores, Director for Quality Assurance, presented SLSU’s transformative programs under the theme “Breaking Barriers, Empowering Change.” His presentation showcased the university’s cutting-edge projects, including:

  • Bioresource Production Technology Center (BioProTeC): Advancing aquaculture and bio‑processing research to convert local resources into high‑value products, boosting alternative livelihoods while driving environmental sustainability.

  • Project AMUMA in Limasawa: A collaborative eco‑tourism and heritage initiative that strengthens local communities through capacity‑building, financial literacy, and sustainable tourism management, with revenues reinvested directly into community development.

  • Agri‑Innovation and Smart Farming Technologies: Integrating technology into agriculture to enhance productivity and sustainable practices.

These initiatives reflect SLSU’s commitment to turning research into real-world solutions, empowering communities, advancing sustainability, and inspiring action beyond the campus.
