On July 24, 2025, the Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) Library – Learning Commons warmly welcomed delegates from the Department of Education – Schools Division Office (SDO) of Maasin City for a benchmarking activity aimed at enhancing library and learning resource services in basic education.

The activity was led by Mr. Mario Orais, Learning Resource Manager of DepEd SDO-Maasin City, accompanied by Ms. Jumarlyn Almosa, SDO-Librarian, along with several Library Teacher In-Charge from the different elementary and secondary schools under SDO-Maasin City.

During their visit, the delegation explored the operations, services, and facilities of the SLSU University Library – Learning Commons. The visitors were introduced to innovative library practices, including the integration of digital resources, user engagement programs, and knowledge-sharing mechanisms that support both academic and lifelong learning.

The benchmarking activity served as a venue for meaningful exchange of ideas and best practices, strengthening collaboration between basic and higher education institutions in the field of library and information services.

This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, which promotes inclusive and equitable education, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, which emphasizes the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing across institutions. By engaging in benchmarking activities, both DepEd and SLSU demonstrate a shared commitment to improving access to quality learning resources and fostering sustainable partnerships in education.
