SLSU-Hinunangan Leads Stakeholder Meeting to Boost Abaca Production in Southern Leyte

The Extension Services Office of Southern Leyte State University - Hinunangan Campus (SLSU-HC), headed by Dr. Fe Alin T. Dalangin, convened a collaborative meeting with key stakeholders to advance abaca production initiatives in Southern Leyte.

The meeting brought together representatives from the Hinunangan Abaca Farmers’ Cooperative President, Mr. Agustin T. Humangit Jr., the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist (OMAS) - LGU Hinunangan represented by Mrs. Kathleen V. Capapas, and the Philippine Fiber Industry Development Authority (PhilFIDA) Southern Leyte represented by Mr. Hector B. Cupat, together with them was Prof. Romecita R. Rosolada, Agricultural Extensionist and TechVoc Coordinator of SLSU-HC.

Held at the RIES Conference Room, SLSU-HC, the session focused on the joint drafting of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) that outlines the terms of collaboration in the provision of abaca planting materials and the implementation of abaca micropropagation techniques. This partnership aims to enhance local abaca production, promote sustainable farming practices, and strengthen the support system for abaca farmers through research-based extension interventions.

The meeting concluded with a commitment from all parties to finalize the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) and proceed with the implementation of planned activities, reinforcing the shared goal of agricultural development and community empowerment.
