SLSU PE Faculty shine at 2025 International Physical Education Convention (IPEC)

The 2025 International Physical Education Convention (IPEC) was held from May 14 to 16, 2025, at the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) – Basak Campus, Cebu City. With the theme “Championing Change: High-Impact PE, Health, Sports, Dance, and Research for Global Excellence,” the event was jointly organized by 1PhysEd.Ph, USJ-R, and Cebu Normal University (CNU). The convention brought together hundreds of educators, administrators, researchers, and scholars from across the country, all dedicated to advancing the fields of physical education and health.
Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) was represented by a delegation of seven Physical Education instructors—two from the Main Campus and five from the Tomas Oppus Campus. Representing the Main Campus were Mr. Lourd Ive M. Visbal and Mr. Archelis Serano. From the Tomas Oppus Campus were Dr. Pritzel Lee G. Capili, Dr. Criselyn Sescon, Ms. Haidelyn Sacro, Mr. King Valds Anthony A. Berame, and Mr. Brian Ray E. Caban.
Two faculty members from the Tomas Oppus Campus presented their research studies during the convention. Dr. Pritzel Lee G. Capili presented a study titled “On the Development of a Sports Education Framework in Maasin City, Philippines,” which was primarily authored by Ms. Jennifer C. Sarra (DepEd Maasin) and co-authored by Mr. Melbert O. Hungo (SLSU), Mr. Leomarich F. Casinillo (Visayas State University), and Dr. Capili herself. The study focused on establishing a comprehensive framework to strengthen sports education in the local context of Maasin City.
Meanwhile, Mr. King Valds Anthony A. Berame presented a co-authored study with Dr. Criselyn S. Sescon titled “Excavating Undocumented Traditional Games in Southern Leyte,” highlighting the cultural importance and educational value of indigenous games in the region. The 2025 International Physical Education Convention served as a meaningful platform for SLSU faculty to engage with fellow PE professionals, share research-based insights, and strengthen academic collaboration across institutions. Their active participation not only showcased the university’s commitment to excellence in physical education and research but also contributed to the broader goal of advancing innovative and culturally grounded practices in the field.
