Southern Leyte State University Student Publications joins PAPSAS 2024 Student Publication Media Conference

No less than 300 Student Leaders and Campus Journalists accompanied by their advisers from various public and private Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) all over the Eastern Visayas came together for the 2024 Student Publication Media Conference organized at the Summit Hotel, Tacloban City last March 15-16, 2024.

With the theme "Voices of Integrity: Nurturing Responsible Campus Journalism and Championing Press Freedom" the conference, organized by the Philippine Association of Practitioners of Student Affairs and Services (PAPSAS) Eastern Visaya sought to immerse participants in the lates trends and practices shaping the media landscape in the Philippines.

Three student publications of Southern Leyte State University campuses, joined the said conference:

Bontoc Campus' The Fisponder was represented by its current Associate Editor, Ms Aiza Mae Udarbe alongside her adviser Ms. Grace Acub.

The Hinunangan Campus' Green Paradise was represented by: Jeovanie Ong, Editor-in-Chief; Hazel Marie Cantero, Associate Editor; Ariel Bacol, Literary Editor; Benje Tambule, Editorial Cartoonist; together with their adviser Ms. Mary Almine.

Tomas Oppus's The Light Publication was represented by one of its writer, James Ladres together with his adviser, Mr. Jayson Orais

This year's Student Publication Media Conference highlights the empowerment of student journalists of their rights as advocates of press freedom while being responsible and ethical, and while adapting to modern times. It also discussed the importance of Campus Journalism in schools, state universities and colleges including the role of journalists in the times of fake new accumulation, emerging artificial intelligence and cyber libel as one of the major challenges in today's journalism
