SLSU - MCC celebrates Nat'l Women's Month through student orgs

Different student organizations from Southern Leyte State University-Maasin City Campus (SLSU-MCC) and its faculty and staff celebrated the National Women's Month Celebration 2024 with an array of purple hues.

On March 6, 2024, a league of galvanized Mighty Kingfishers from SLSU-MCC gathered at the campus grounds to celebrate #NationalWomensMonthCelebration2024 to paint the town purple. The invigorating occasion was guided by the theme "Lipunang Patas sa Bagong Pilipinas, Kakayahan ng Kababaihan Patutunayan," which strives to electrify women's empowerment and teach equality and equity for everyone. Juvenal F. Sumaya, the Planning Officer and Extension Coordinator of SLSU-MCC, officially opened the program with her welcome message, followed by an inspirational message by Magdaleno T. Samaco, Jr., Head, RIES of SLSU-MCC. Purple became a paradigm and a beacon of hope to uplift and support women's empowerment. The tying of purple ribbons as bracelets was observed as an allegory of our collective support for feminism. The purposeful purple occasion escalated as everyone showed off their killing dance moves and danced to "Isang Bilyong Babae Babangon" in a mass dance presentation—a coastal clean-up drive followed after the program. Student organizations were tasked with carrying out the clean-up drive at the Anatalio Gaviola Plaza, while faculty and staff were tasked at the Espina Boulevard. The half-day activity cleaves to SGD#5, Gender Equality, and SGD#13, Climate Action, and served as a rendezvous for the Mighty Kingfishers of SLSU-MCC to gear up for the promotion of women's empowerment and taking urgent steps to halt climate change.
