Mighty Kingfisher shines in recent master electrician licensure exam with 3rd place finish

Southern Leyte State University is celebrating another triumph as one of its alumni from the College of Engineering has made it to the top.

Mr. Wowie S. Hayagan, a native of Sogod, Southern Leyte, placed third and led 11 other new Mighty Kingfisher master electricians in the April 2023 Registered Master Electricians Licensure Examination administered by the Professional Regulations Commission (PRC).

Hayagan obtained an individual rating of 93%, making him one of the top performers in the country.

He graduated from SLSU-Main Campus in July 2022, and his success in the licensure exam is a testament to the quality of education he received at the university.

The university obtained an insitutitonal passing rate of 57.89% for master electrician. This surpasses the national passing rate of only 42.21%.

Further, Engr. Christsen Mark Lasala Belleza passed the upgraded Professional Electrical Engineer (PEE).

The university posted an institutional rating of 68.09%, surpassing the national passing rate of 57.86%. This is a remarkable achievement for Southern Leyte State U's Department of Electrical Engineering, which has consistently produced performing graduates in the field.

Southern Leyte State U is proud of the 43 alumni who passed the recent licensure exams, with an institutional passing rate of 63.24%.

Engr. Julius Paler, Dean of the College of Engineering, extended his congratulations to the new set of Electrical Engineers and Master Electricians.

"The challenges of obtaining an Electrical Engineering license and becoming a Master Electrician are not to be underestimated, but despite these difficulties, you have persevered and achieved your goals," Engr. Paler said.

Engr. Paler also added that this accomplishment is a testament to the preparation and training that the passers received at the university, which taught them to view problems as opportunities and to thrive even in the face of adversity.

University President Dr. Jude A. Duarte also expressed his congratulations to Mr. Hayagan and the rest of the passers of the licensure exams for electrical engineers and master electricians.

"I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Hayagan and the other successful examinees from SLSU. Their achievement is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the Department of Electrical Engineering and the College of Engineering. It is an honor to see our program being recognized as one of the best in the country and even beyond. We take pride in this accomplishment and will continue to provide unwavering support to further enhance and strengthen our engineering programs," Dr. Duarte said.

PRC announces that 3,339 out of 5,771 passed the Registered Electrical Engineers Licensure Examination and 986 out of 2,336 passed the Registered Master Electricians Licensure Examination given by the Board of Electrical Engineering NCR, Baguio, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Koronadal, Legazpi, Lucena, Pagadian, Palawan, Pampanga, Rosales, Tacloban, Tuguegarao and Zamboanga in April 2023.
