Southern Leyte State U faculty researchers ace perfect pitch, win best poster at DOST-PCAARD competition

Southern Leyte State University continues to soar in accentuating the blend of innovation and business through the ingenuity of its roster of researchers as Southern Leyte State U bagged two big wins at the Regional Agri-Aqua Technology Pitch Day Competition held at the Visayas State University on April 18-19, 2023.

Faculty-researchers Ms. Khorina Aguilar and Engr. Jonelle Tablada from the College of Engineering won 1st place in both pitching and poster contest with their Thermoelectric Solar Dryer technology.

Thermoelectric Solar Dryer is an automated heat control dryer with a PID algorithm that drives the thermal energy inside.

According to Ms. Aguilar and Mr. Tablada, the Thermoelectric Solar Dryer is the answer to a clean drying method using green energy for sustainable applications especially on gridless communities.

The Agri-Aqua Innovation Pitch Fest showcased a total of 11 technologies with commercial potential in both food products and beverages and agricultural/aquatic equipment and machinery.

Dr. Angel T. Sabusap from the College of Technology also pitched his portable solar dryer.

Visayas State University (VSU) and Samar State University (SSU) hailed second place and third place respectively in poster contest, while SSU and VSU ranked second and third respectively in pitching competition.

The event was organized by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD) to inspire and engage the next generation of Filipinos in shaping a modern, progressive, and more relevant agriculture and aquaculture sector.
