8 Mighty Kingfishers soar high in February 2023 mechanical eng'g board exam

Eight alumni from the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DME) passed the February 2023 Licensure Examination for Mechanical Engineer, according to the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) released on March 2.

Successful passers were John Rafael Ayop, Harvey Masiar, Sherwin Nuñez, Reynaldo Naol, Jr., Myl Arjay Purcon, John Vincent Quintinita, Angelo Hoyumpa, and John Laurence Pejoles. Seven of them are first-time takers.

Southern Leyte State U obtained a passing percentage of 53.85 for the first-time takers, an 8.32% deficit against the national passing rate of 62.17%.

University President, Dr. Jude A. Duarte, said that he will make an intervention for the failed ME students to increase the performance percentage of the licensure exam.

Dr. Duarte even challenged the Dean of the College of Engineering to create robust strategies in order to surpass each and every licensure exam not just in Mechanical Engineering but all the board exams of its programs.

In terms of the performance of schools, the University of Science & Tech of Southern Philippines Cagayan De Oro had a 100 percent passing rate, with all 44 people passing the exam.

Meanwhile, Reynell Villanueva Sanchez from Rizal Technological University topped this year's batch of passers.

PRC further announced that 3,774 out of 6,070 passed the Mechanical Engineers Licensure Examination given by the Board of Mechanical Engineering in National Capital Region (NCR), Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Koronadal, Legazpi, Lucena, Pampanga, Rosales, Tacloban, and Zamboanga last February 2023.
