Southern Leyte State U launches GAD office, childcare center

Southern Leyte State University officially launched its Gender and Development (GAD) office and Childcare center to provide adequate facility for the needs of university women employees and their children on December 16, 2022. 

Headed by Mr. Omar Alo, the GAD office ensures the integration and mainstreaming of gender in the trilogical function of the University, gender-responsive curricular programs, research programs, and extension programs, policies and programs from the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation where both women and men can benefit equally.

On the other hand, the newly opened Childcare Center provides adequate facility for the needs of the university employees, most especially women, and their children.

GAD's Childcare Center is a safe space for women to gather and share their thoughts and ideas regarding their plights as well as to provide them with a facility to cater to their motherly needs and of their children’s security and primary education while they are at work.

"The launching of the GAD office and the Childcare Center is a big win not just for our office but for the whole university. We now have a place that offers child-caring environment that facilitate the children's learning while their parents are at work," the then University President Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes said.

Moreover, Mr. Alo shared that the establishment of the Childcare Center is anchored on the support of Southern Leyte State U to the employees and community through activities and materials that promote holistic development.
