Southern Leyte State U reaches out to students, provides help to tropical storm Paeng victims

Due to the onslaught of the tropical storm Paeng, the Office of the Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension Services (OVPRIES) of Southern Leyte State University spearheaded a relief operation drive on November 4, 2022 to students who were affected by the storm.

The faculty and staff of the University made a cash and in-kind donation to support the mobilization the relief operation assistance called "Panginano", a Cebuano term of the English phrase "to take care."

OVPRIES was able to raise funds to purchase, repack, and distribute relief packs to 10 affected students and families during the onslaught of the tropical storm Paeng. Two (2) of the houses of these students were situated in coastal areas and were completely washed out.

Prior to the distribution of relief goods, the University made an assessment to identify the students who need assistance. The OVPRIES coordinated with the Office of the Vice President for Students and Auxiliary Services (OVPSAS), through the University Supreme Student Council, to determine the number of students who were severely affected by the storm and in dire need of help.

University President Dr. Prose Ivy Yepes and Vice President for RIES Dr. Francis Ann R. Sy led the relief distribution wherein students were very much grateful of the support they received from the University.
