Tomas Oppus campus holds non-SPED teacher coaching to children with special needs

Faculty members of theBachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) of Southern Leyte State University-Tomas Oppus campus conducted an activity on Non-SPED Teacher Coaching and Mentoring Series for Mainstreamed Children with Special Needs for public school teachers on October 17-21, 2022.

This program aimed to address the present challenges educators in the Division of Southern Leyte face in implementing inclusive education, namely the disadvantage posed by the fact that the majority of regular teachers have little interaction, experience, or understanding in dealing with children with special needs.

Southern Leyte State U extensionists aided the Department of Education (DepEd) teachers in developing learning materials and restructuring their school settings to accommodate mainstreamed students with special needs better.

During the four-day event, the public-school teachers in Southern Leyte were supervised and instructed in dealing with mainstreamed children with special needs.

The series of activities included the training on participation and achievement relative to mainstreamed students with special needs and a Seminar-Workshop on creating learning materials, learning activities, and classroom restructuring plans. These activities were necessary to increase the knowledge and skills of public-school teachers relative to inclusive education.

This activity is in collaboration with DepEd Southern Leyte Division.
