CHED grants Southern Leyte State U 4 addt’l COPC; highest percentage of COPC-compliance in EV so far

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) awarded four (4) Certificates of Compliance (COPC) to Southern Leyte State University during the exit conference of the CHED Monitoring on Wednesday, October 19, 2022.

Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Bontoc Campus), Bachelor of Science in Food Technology (Main Campus), Bachelor of Physical Education (Tomas Oppus Campus), and Bachelor of Public Administration (Maasin City Campus) are the 4 programs which have been granted with COPC.

COPC is a recognition that the specific degree programs being offered by Southern Leyte State U are fully compliant with the policies, standards, and guidelines implemented by CHED.

The evaluation of the programs to COPC-compliant includes the availability of qualified program head and faculty members, presence of library resources, and laboratory facilities and equipment, and whether the program being offered is within CHED’s mandate.

Out of 46 programs being offered by six (6) campuses of Southern Leyte State U, 33 of which are already COPC-compliant to date.

Thes COPCs anew made all the undergraduate programs of Tomas Oppus Campus and Bontoc Campus 100% compliant to CHED’s implemented policies, standards, and guidelines.

With this recognition, 71.74% of the total programs are now granted with COPC, putting Southern Leyte State at the top of the ranking of the 10 state universities and colleges (SUCs) in the region in terms of the percentage of programs issued with COPCs.

Southern Leyte State U is likewise the second highest number of programs with COPCs, following Visayas State University with 37.

CHED Regional Office VIII Regional Director Dr. Maximo C. Aljibe made a pronouncement that Southern Leyte State U is one of the most improved SUCs in the region.

“I am proud to say that your university is the most improved SUC in the region considering that your commitment to quality and excellence in higher education is manifested by the recognitions and awards you get,” Dr. Aljibe pronounced.

University President Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes, on the other hand, took to social media her appreciation to CHEDRO8 for another recognition afforded to Southern Leyte State U.

“My heart is full… Our heartfelt gratitude to CHEDRO8 for being proactive in really monitoring the quality and relevance of the programs offered by the SUCs in the region for a much better quality tertiary education for our young Filipino students,” Dr. Yepes said, thanking all the hardworking men and women of the university for this huge accomplishment.

Southern Leyte State U has been awarded with COPCs for its programs since 2015.
