The Southern Leyte State University has partnered with the Department of Education (DepEd)-Division of Southern Leyte in the realization of providing field study and student internship program and extension services called "Non-Sped Teachers Coaching and Mentoring Series for Mainstreamed Children with Special Needs."

Through Tomas Oppus Campus, facilitated by the College of Teacher Education, Southern Leyte State U and DepEd Southern Leyte Division signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on September 12, 2022 for the acceptance and open conduct of Field Study and student internship programs in the cooperating schools within the Division.

This collaboration aims to introduce the students to the real-life scenarios of how classes are done in the field. From learning the theories to witnessing and experiencing a pre-service teacher’s life, this partnership seeks to boost the morale and skills of the students as they embark on a teacher’s journey.

On the same day, both parties have signed another MOA to kickstart the conduct of the Tomas Oppus extension activities entitled "Non-Sped Teachers Coaching and Mentoring Series for Mainstreamed Children with Special Needs" which targets to conduct seminars on Inclusive Education while focusing on the roles of public school teachers and community stakeholders and ensuring inclusive participation of mainstreamed children with special needs.

This initiative is in line with the University’s goal in increasing the number of collaborations through the implementation of extension projects and in strengthening internal and external partnerships for sustainable programs and services.
