Limited f2f classes for Southern Leyte State U system begin on August 15 for next sem

The gates of Southern Leyte State University across all campuses will soon open for the students as the university will hold the limited face-to-face classes starting August 15, 2022 for academic year 2022-2023.

The Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA) heeds the call of the time to resume the classes implementing the flexible learning modality of instruction constituting of three approaches—face-to face classes, technology-mediated (online), and print media (modules).

This modality of instruction is in consonance with CHED Memorandum Order (CMO) No. 04 series of 2020 and CMO No. 06 series of 2022.

VPAA Dr. Anabelle M. Hufalar said that such guidelines are needed to be implemented for the safety of the students who will be participating the limited face-to-face classes.

"Only the vaccinated students can get inside the campus for the limited in-person classes. Students who are not vaccinated yet due to religion, health, and other reasons will still have a means to participate the class online or modules will be distributed to them if necessary," Dr. Hufalar said.

The implementation of the flexible learning modality of instruction is in adherence to CHED-CHED-DOH JMC 004-2021, CMO No. 04 series of 2022 and CMO No. o6 series of 2022.

Although the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) did not mandate the return to face-to-face classes as stated by CHED Chairperson himself Dr. J. Prospero E. De Vera III in an interview, Southern Leyte State Un is ready for the face-to-face classes considering that most faculty, staff, and students are already vaccinated.

Meanwhile, University President Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes expressed her delight and excitement to see the students in the campus after two years due to COVID-19 scare.

"I am glad that we can have our students back in the campus after two years. I just hope that with COVID-19 still present, we will still observe the minimum health protocols for the safety of everyone who will participate the face-to-face classes," Dr. Yepes said.

Southern Leyte State U is one of the state universities and colleges in the region that will adopt the limited face-to-face classes. Such implementation began since the start of summer classes in June 2022.
