Southern Leyte State U leaps 13 spots, now ranks 109th in July 2022 PH university ranking: Webometrics

Among the 366 universities and colleges in the country that made it to the Webometrics ranking, Southern Leyte State University landed in 109th place in the recently released July 2022 edition of the Top Philippine Universities.

Southern Leyte State U advanced 13 spots on the roll from being ranked 122nd in the January 2022 edition of the listing.

The ranking is based on web presence, impact, openness, and excellence as reported by the Spanish National Research Council’s Webometrics, a ranking system that evaluates the performance of websites of more than 22,000 universities in the world.

Although the goal is to be included in the Top 100 universities in the country, University President Prose Ivy G. Yepes is glad with the progress of Southern Leyte State U’s placement, calling it “baby steps”.

“This is an affirmation of our efforts in improving not just the kind of education we offer but also the service that we give to our stakeholders,” Dr. Yepes added.

Visayas State University (Top 8), Samar State University (Top 56), Leyte Normal University (Top 68), Eastern Visayas State University (Top 78), and University of Eastern Philippines (Top 100) made it in the Top 100 universities in the Philippines in Eastern Visayas Region.

Webometrics clarified that the ranking is not on the university websites but a ranking of universities that uses both webometric (all missions) and bibliometric (research mission) indicators. Editors of the ranking web are scientists working at a world-class public research institution with considerable experience in metrics-guided evaluation, its website says.
