F2f graduation makes comeback in Southern Leyte State U after 2-year pause

Graduation this year has become even more exciting for the graduating students of Class of 2022 who took part of the graduation ceremonies which were done face-to-face.

After more than two years since face-to-face activities were suspended due to COVID-19 scare, the whole Southern Leyte State University system has successfully conducted its graduation rights in person for the six campuses including the Junior and Senior High School, and the Graduate School.

The graduation ceremonies were conducted on separate dates of the third and fourth week of July.

This year, the six campuses of Southern Leyte State University have produced a total of 2, 028 graduates in which 134 of them are Latin Honors— 9 Magna Cum Laude and 125 Cum Laude. That is 6.6% of the total number of graduates for the whole University system.

The Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Annabelle M. Hufalar is glad with the turn out of graduates with Latin Honors considering that most of their studies were done online and through flexible learning management system.

“We have been producing almost quite the same percentage of Latin Honors even before the pandemic. Our goal is to produce quality education despite the implementation of flexible learning,” Dr. Hufalar said.

During the conduct of the graduation, incident command posts were stationed near the venue of the graduation ceremonies to respond to an emergency when the need arises.

Meanwhile, in her message, University President Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes expressed her delight on face-to-face graduation return, saying that graduation is a major milestone of the students given the recent history.

“Your time here in the University was not meant to protect you from reality but rather the opposite. We have wanted you to engage with the world, with the truth of the world, in all its beauty and brokenness,” Dr. Yepes quipped, who drew inspiration from the graduates for their unwavering dedication in the midst of a great flux.

CHED Commissioner Dr. Aldrin A. Darilag and Southern Leyte 2nd District Representative Hon. Christopherson M. Yap graced the ceremonies who served as the commencement and motivational speaker, respectively.

Considered to be the lucky, the Class of 2022 were the first batch of graduates who were able to march in an actual stage after face-to-face graduation makes a comeback after the easing of COVID-19 restrictions.
