Southern Leyte State U, Red Cross partner to conduct community-based disaster response

The University's Office of Environmental Management- Disaster Risk Reduction Management (EM-DRRM) and Philippine Red Cross- Southern Leyte Chapter co-spearheaded the conduct of "Training on Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CBDRM) on July 13-15, 2022 for the faculty and staff volunteers from the Southern Leyte State University-Main Campus.

The three-day training aims to develop a volunteer base of individual faculty and staff and train them on emergency response and early recovery interventions and affirm their commitment and dedication to serving humanity. It is one of the capacity-building initiatives under the thematic area of preparedness, response and early recovery.

It was graced by Community Development Officers and Registered Social Workers from Philippine Red Cross- Southern Leyte Chapter: Jonas P. Maco, Robson I. Basco, Leony M. Angkoy, Jonna E. Macul, and Losil Amancio. The training is one of the activities prepared in line with the celebration of National Disaster Resilience Month. Moreover, it is the response to the growing need of the university's community for safety and resilience.

The same training will be conducted on the external campuses of the university. It will serve as an avenue to create a pool of volunteers that will lead to the organization of SLSU's Emergency Response Volunteers (SERVE-SLSU) Corps coming from the six (6) campuses.
