Southern Leyte State U conducts training to SWFAI on producing chicken-based food products

The College of Technology (COT) of the Southern Leyte State University conducted a capacity building on chicken-based product with lecture on food safety and coaching on costing and pricing on April 26-27, 2022 participated with Sogod Women’s Forever Association Inc. (SWFAI).

The training includes the methods in producing chicken-based nuggets, longganiza, tocino, chorizo and ham, and a lecture of basic knowledge in food safety and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). This initiative is to stop production of pork-based products due to the potential presence of African Swine Fever (ASF) in pork.

In her speech, DTI Division Chief Ma. Aurora Sabalo emphasized the importance of micro-, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and food processor in the Philippine economy.

"Empowering our MSMEs will help reducing poverty because we creating job for the country's growing labor force. When MSMEs are given much attention, it will stimulate economic development in rural and far-flung areas," Chief Sabalo said.

The training is in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry to support meat processors in producing chicken-based food products.
