Jovita, Jamorol crowned Mr. and Miss Southern Leyte State U 2022

Tomas Oppus Campus's Charles L. Jovita and Department of Teacher Education-Main Campus' Angelie Gwyn M. Jamorol were hailed as the 2022 Mr. and Miss Southern Leyte State U during the premiere of the coronation night aired on May 31, 2022 via Southern Leyte State University's official YouTube channel.

The two emerged victorious from eight (8) pairs of candidates representing the five (5) external campuses of Southern Leyte State University, and the 5 colleges and one (1) department in the Main Campus.

When asked by the reigning Miss Eco International Kathleen Paton on how to encourage fellow students to become socially aware, Jovita's winning answer was "I can encourage my fellow students here in Southern Leyte and outside Southern Leyte to be more socially aware by using my image specifically my voice. I believe we have different social media platforms that we can use in order for us to express ourselves, what we want to advocate about. I believe that social awareness is important for us to advocate and we must use social media to do that. In doing so we would be able to spread the news and information, and to educate not just the students but everyone in a community. I believe that together, if we use our social media platforms in that way, we will be able to bridge any gap and barrier, and reach our goals and dreams in this world."

The newly crowned Mr. Southern Leyte State U was hailed Mr. SLSU-TO 2019 during their campus pageant and expressed that two years of waiting was a blessing.

"The waiting has prepared me mentally and emotionally. With the crown on my head now representing the whole system of Southern Leyte State U, I want to inspire other people especially my fellow students to step out of their comfort zone, do what they love, love and accept their imperfect selves, and while waiting for the crowning moment of one's dreams, work smart,” Jovita said, whose eyes were on the crown coming into the competition.

Meanwhile, Jamorol’s answer to the same question that made her won the title was “I will use this platform [Mr. and Miss Southern Leyte State U 2022] not just to showcase my beauty but also to use it to educate and advocate to the young people like me to be socially aware to social issues by creating organizations, hosting and joining it, that primarily aims to advocate social issues.”

In an interview, the newly crowned Miss Southern Leyte State U did not expect to win the title at all.

“I did not expect to win at all. I was competing with one of the most beautiful ladies from the different colleges and campuses in the University. I, however, prepared for this night and did my best on stage. I am just so thankful for the chance to serve my University and excited to whatever lies ahead of me throughout our reign”, Jamorol shared.

This year’s edition of Mr. and Miss Southern Leyte State U is the second pageant that the University organized since the pandemic.
