SLSU, CSWPD in Bangladesh forges partnership to support Social Work programs

Amidst pandemic, Southern Leyte State University (SLSU) continues to promote Internationalization (IZN) by forging alliance with Community Social Work Practice and Development (CSWPD) Foundation in Bangladesh.

A virtual ceremonial signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was held between SLSU Maasin City Campus and CSWPD on September 17 to support the Social Work program offered by the two institutions.

The partnership aims to establish cooperation on enhancement of opportunities in higher education, strengthening scientific and technological developments on social work programs, and promotion of cross-border cooperation and cultural awareness.

In her message, University President, Dr. Prose Ivy G. Yepes, shares that SLSU seeks to make the most of the possibilities of forming global partnerships and fostering relationships with other international institutions.

“Our initiative on IZN is growing rapidly, with unhindered communication channels and inexpensive travel especially in this time of a global health crisis,” Dr. Yepes added.

This alliance anew includes academic cooperation and foundation of social welfare activities such as joint research activities on mental health, drug addiction recovery, and aftercare program; exchange of faculty members and staff, undergraduate and graduate students; joint teaching programs, and; other activities based on mutual interests.

In a Facebook post, Prof. Habibur Rahman, President of CSWPD Foundation, considered the partnership as ‘a forestep journey towards enhancement of academic and cultural development’ as he conveyed his thanks to all who attended the ceremonial engagement from both institutions.

Meanwhile, The Campus Director of SLSU Maasin City Campus, Ms. Ma. Estela E. Roa, expressed her congratulations to both institutions, saying that ‘even in this global health crisis, it is still possible to forge alliance, improve research, replicate and exchange good practice, and calibrate research methodologies.’

Being the lone university in the province of Southern Leyte, SLSU is the only school in the province to offer Social Work that ‘champions social justice and social change that seeks to challenge oppression,’ Roa added.
